Add a little consistency to your page. If you are stuck with an older, perhaps “outdated” website, the chore of updating it might be a little more than you want to tackle. As I keep praising the idea of “content is king”, you might be dreading the update process since it is so cumbersome. Let’s look at a few options to make this process a little easier.

First and foremost, I’m a huge fan, and proponent of, CMS based websites. Using a program like WordPress, Joomla or Drupal, you will be able to simply log in, make your changes and log back off. Nobody gets hurt. If your website was built with a product such as Dreamweaver, you can use their “Contribute” program to log in and make your changes. A little more “techy”, but still a great option.

One of the biggest changes I have been making to HTML/CSS based (non-cms) sites lately is the use of “include” files. If you aren’t fortunate enough to have a template based site, include files can be used to replace the header, footer, sidebar or any section of the website that is present on all pages. The huge benefit here is that you are able to make the change once and see your changes across the entire site.  And yes!  This is possible to “add” to your static site as well!

In basic terms, the browser loads the web page and when it comes to the “include” code, it simply pulls that section of code from the file you created in another section of the server. Now, instead of making those changes to 25 pages all across your site, you can make the change once and see your results everywhere. This saves time (and money if you’re paying someone to manage your site). Be sure and ask us about the use of include files and templates. It will make your site more manageable and might even save you some time and money.
