boulder co web designNo, but really… It has truly been a bit of a whirlwind for the last few weeks.  We migrated south to Boulder from Fort Collins.  That alone is a bit of a time-suck.  And my work with Codegeek has really picked up lately.  I currently have a site “fix” at the top of my list, 2 other fairly large site “tweak” updates, 3 site builds and 2 fairly significant sites of my own to complete.  Thankfully, none of them are terribly huge, but that appears to be a bit too much for my little plate to handle.  That said, in the spirit of staying positive, I am sure I will be able to tackle all of it, keep the clients happy and not lose my sanity.

Maintaining a blog requires that you both have thoughts in your head that you need to expunge as well as the confidence that anybody cares to read them.  I’m not overflowing with the latter this morning, but do have a thought or two I’d love to get out.  First and foremost, have I mentioned how much I love coffee?  I’m hoping it turns out to be one of those things that used to be bad for us and now is the key to a long life!  Everything in moderation, I suppose.

Mostly what I want to mention today is the joy I’ve experienced in doing something I love. I have had a plethora of jobs in my life.  Auto mechanic, cook, dish washer, youth pastor, ski patroller, irrigation tech, real estate agent.. the list could go on…  Today, after starting a company focused on Social media marketing, SEO and web design, I am finally narrowing my field of vision to focus on web development.

Just like every other job, there are pieces that come with it that will not be our favorite things to do.  Of all the projects I have going on right now, only 3 of those are actual web development.  These projects allow me to further my knowledge of PHP and the WordPress template structure.  I get to learn new programming skills and really see a site come to life without the assistance of a pre-built theme.  I truly love it.

Last week I spent an hour or so on the phone with a friend that is interested in heading down this path of web design and development.  Throughout the conversation I could hear myself getting excited about teaching her the pathways I had taken and some of the best practices for getting started in this career.  The things I wish I had known 4 years ago!

My hope is that if you’re doing something you love to do, you will feel it.  Such is the case for me and I would wish this feeling on everyone (that still has to work!) 😉  Of course, I’d love to be biking and hiking my way through life, but in order to pay the bills, I’m fortunate to be able to (mostly) do what I enjoy and I appreciate those that have made this possible.
